If a new Shop were to open?

It would be nice to have a folks with a lot of knowledge. I believe that the store's do a good job at maintaining their livestock. It would be nice if they could assist customers in doing the same.

Right pricing is also important. And, when things aren't in stock, it would be nice if the LFS's would follow up with the vendor and with the clients. A number of other FS owners have taken responsiblility with products sold at their stores. The LFS's don't seem to do this and always refer clients back to the original equipment manufacturer. Case in point: PFO.

The LFS's gladly accepted the $4k pricetag but, don't assist with warranty after PFO went under. Same for other products. Thus, buying stuff online serves the same purpose with followup being exactly the same. Now that RC and thereeftank and other sites have knowledgeable folks on the sites, we can all obtain fairly good information on products.

Just a thought!

wow Mark little miss info there buddy. PFO required direct warranty contact to the customer as do 90% of manufaturers these days. They almost all prefer LFS sales over etailers as etailers simply return the item and ship it back to the manufacturer and make them eat it. LFS refer customers to their techs that can usually fix issue with no replacement needed. Since PFO's closure I have replaced a lot of ballast and LED strips with the help of Dave Rowley. He is making ballast for solaris that have a 100% success rate and no returns like the original. He has also replaced some for your clients that lost their replacement ballast like all the others the Korean manufacturer made for PFO.........Dave is a wiz on the electric and I put people in contact with him when they have issues. Or simply help them fix it if they buy the parts.......

oooook, now that thats all said and done lets move on........Even if your not a super saltwater knowledge person and you work at a LFS. Be polite, don't ignore customers, and KNOW THE PRICE OF YOUR PRODUCTS. Don't call the owner or just not know at all. Otherwise I'm gone. And I don't frequent fish stores much. In time all of us find friends and contacts all over the U.S. and have defined our ambition. (scope of where we are going with our tanks) the LFS HAS to be part of the community for all of us to remain a community of saltwater enthusiast. Otherwise, (for example) our ranks go from 100 to 5 hardcore hobbiest. I will visit the store wherever it is located, mark your prices and keep it clean. Oh yea, keep on reefin.

liveaquaria is garbage for actual husbandry so far as they post. LFS tend to have much more knowledge and experience than some phone jockey in a call center.

The LFS I deal with has done alot to fix thing since PFO went under, so there is no one to call for that. LFS have limited things that they can do without huge liability. So any help fixing anything is awesome. The LFS didnt manufacture it, nor did they make any promise to fix it, they sold it, and the company who sold it tanked due to a patent issue. they went under TS for you pal, just be glad the lfs is doing anything to fix it.

I know all the local fish stores hate playing the how much is that game, so prices would be great. Putting labels on when stuff came in and removing as stuff goes out couldn't be that hard. Sometimes it does feel like a bunch of buddies messing around in the lfs. Mike and Dan have always been awesome when they are helping out around southwest. HINT, HINT. Some of the other guys could use some work though.
