If I had a saw...

Thanks for your time!

If I had a concrete saw - could use it to cut my live rock in half?

I've got a tight area that I'd really like to fill with thin pieces of live rock, but I don't have any. Can I make some?

hacksaw but it would be a lot of work Been there done that.

when all else fails in an emergency you can even frag a coral with a hacksaw. I know cause I forgot to take the dremel to my little brothers and His acan was dying so I made him give me a piece. (Big fight but I won) the piece I got is comeing out quick nicely now that I found it a place in the tank that it is happy.

Band saw would be better, but only if the rock is very pourous. Circular saw will work too, be careful and take it slow.
Depends on how thin you want the cut mto be.

from what Ive seen, concrete is far denser than live rock. Id doubt a circular saw would have much trouble cutting rock.

the question is how thin you could cut it without the sliver cracking. Im thinking not very thin at all.

I have used a circular saw and diamond blade to cut ceramic tile, brick, and Hardie Plank. It worked great for that and the diamond blade (~$30) will last a lot longer than masonry blades. There are some limitations to using a circular saw, though: you won't be able to cut anything deeper than about 2.5 inches; less control than a band saw so you can't just set a stop and get repeatable thickness; wider kerf=more waste and more dust.

I'm not sure what kind of band saw you have in mind. There are some wet band saws designed for tile (there's one by DiamondTech that goes for $1500). If you're thinking about using a woodworking saw, good luck. The abrasiveness of the rock dust will probably eat the wheels and bearings.

Thanks for all of your posts!

I went and picked up a cheapy wheel grinder and a 4" diamond cutting wheel - all in for 40 bucks. Worked Awesome!
