if someone is looking for a mantis..

dragonette

Yes, its LIVE rock.
there is a peacock mantis at the "fish store" in ft. pierce.
It has been there a few weeks and is very active. Id buy it for my tank, but my husband is 'sick of me buying stuff that eats eachother' lol!

Someone go buy him and love him before I have to set up a tank for him :D

hes so cute

(39.99 i think)

IMO,
The owner is a jerk. His fish are priced pretty decent, his corals are expensive. He does sell RO/DI pre-mixed water.

I think he is very helpful and nice.
He has given me MH bulbs free, he always tells me about the new products (like a new phyto he just started carrying) and he is always trying to make the store better.

They recently put a large acrylic look down display tank in there and they get more corals every week. He also has a ton of stock of nano cubes, sometimes custom tanks, and tests your water for free(no, not all fish stores do it for free)

He is the new owner(I think last year he became the new owner) and the store has improved greatly.

There is a large shark tank in the wall thats pretty cool to gawk at too. When I showed interest in the shark tank he took me around back and showed me all the filtration and pumps for the tank, it was really cool! even told me about cleaning the tank, and mishaps with the sharks jumping etc.

He is a 'layed' back guy, he wont badger you to buy things.

Give it a shot!

I would love to get that mantis, been looking for a peacock. Dont think Ft. Pierce is too close to NY however. I'll have to figure something out. Thanks for the heads up!

I've been in there.......
Not a bad place.....

Pros: the prices are cheaper. He has fresh and salt for those of us with both kinds of tanks in the house. And the fish look good......the day I was there, I didn't see any dead fish - that's a big plus in my book. And so far, super nice. I've been in stores in the past where I could stand around for hours and no-one asks if I need any help......there they asked a few times, but let me wander till I flagged them down again. LOL And if I had a question, they looked for the answer if they didn't know it off the top of their heads......like which fish are compatible with what corals.......it didn't feel like a lot of BS, yanno?

Cons: they don't, or at least didn't the day I was there, help you out with your big jugs of water - my 2nd visit, we had to ask someone to help. (I dunno, maybe it's just me......but if a lady walks in there with multiple big 6 gallon jugs to be filled with water, wouldn't you assume she MIGHT need help out to her car with it??? LOL) And the testing he does on the water is just one of those test strips. It has been my experience that those aren't all that reliable, and they don't test for everything I need tested.

But, IMO, in the end, worth future visits, the pros outweigh the cons....... For me at least, it's on my way to/from work if I need to swing in for water or food. (I just know now to say "Yo, a lil help please??" hahaha)
