If you've got time for a good laugh...

It seems our friend has gotten his new store open;). You have got to check out the FAQ's, Our Philosophy, and hell, any other part of the web site. If I read it correctly, he singlehandedly made Aquatic Critter and Emerald Bay what they are today. Apparently, if you lack the 'intelligence' they require for you to buy things from them (don't ask questions he deems stupid, or you will be forever on the no service list), you shouldn't bother going to them. I love the marketing. Of course, I am giving him some free advertising here... You guys have got to check this out. I've never seen someone try to sell something but only under their terms. A true riot of a read. I hope they do well:rolleyes:.

I had to post this website after hearing about what was posted on it at the meeting tonight. I've never seen someone racially profile their customers. Strictly through conjecture, one doesn't have to wonder why this guy has worked in so many places... In the real world, you don't get the jobs requiring training and skills if you can't show that you can hold one for any amount of time. 15 stores in 20+ years... If he has owned 3, that not saying much for longevity. I'm loving it. Good luck...

BTW, the proprietors of this store are in no way affiliated with any of the well known stores in the area.

Yup, I read it all, all I can say is...wow. (do you guys know the owner? sorry, I may have missed a related thread (?). I particularly enjoyed this statement:

"If you intentionally hybridize your animals, you suck."

I'm no marketing genius, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say some of the things on those pages make me wonder...

Enjoyed the read, thanks!

My personal favorite:

#12. All are welcome. We do not discriminate when it comes to welcoming newcomers to the hobby. Okay, except for rude and/or stupid people. Our "average" customers are "white" females aged 16-45, with "white" males of the same age group as a close second, but we have ALL "types" of people who buy/sell/trade with us. To repeat, the ONLY people we discriminate against are idiots. If you feel you are OBVIOUSLY being ignored or ill-treated in our store, a serious self-examination may be in order!!!

I thought we could have pets in our government subsidized housing. I guess I'll have to get rid of my rats!! Maybe keep them in the freezer!. Sorry folks, just couldn't help myself.

Yeah, it's like a _potential_ customer just browsing his store is an anoyance to him. Be sure to not ask any _stupid questions_ :)

From the FAQ "How big does this animal get??? -- We hate this question."

And also, this question is Frequently Asked? -- "Do you actually sell any of these things???" I can only imagine the interaction in the store that leads to this question being repeatedly asked by potential customer after potential customer.

Visited this store...

I visited this store a few months ago when I was just walking around the mall. I went in, looked around, and didn't ask any "stupid" questions (let alone say anything to the store employee except "hi"), yet I still felt like I was unwelcome there. I remembered this and subsequently would never go back. As someone new to the reefing hobby, I understand how important it is to be able to openely ask question that more advanced hobbyist might think very basic (i.e., stupid). These questions are why boards like this exist on the web and a major reason for having a reef club. No amount of reading books can substitute for experience and "trial and error", so expecting someone to know everything they need to about an animal (especially given the number and variety available) is ludicrous. If my first trips into the AC or Emerald Bay had mirrored my experience with this store, I most certainly would not have become involved in the hobby. It is hard enough spending tons of money in these stores, but I would never give my money to someone with a bad, counter-productive attitude.

You need to follow his advice:

"If you feel you are OBVIOUSLY being ignored or ill-treated in our store, a serious self-examination may be in order!!! "

When you figure out what is wrong with you, let us know. ;)

I would need to write a book just to keep track of it all:lol:

Well, I am "white," so that should have helped (despite his anti-discrimination clause that sounds like a guilty conscience talking)... but maybe some other part of my "look" was not down. Maybe he doesn't like people that wear sweatshirts or maybe he isn't a Penn State fan (I think I was wearing my hat that day). Or maybe he is so omniscient that he could just read that my mind was full of "stupid questions" and that I find tarantulas to be utterly repulsive (I don't trust anything with more than 2 eyes).
