they are going to be put over a 5, foot long 24, inch deep sps acrylic reef. is this going to be suffiecient lighting? how low/high can i have them from the surface of the water, etc...any advice is highly appreciated in kind, thanks...

Each MH bulb can usually cover about 2 ft square. I would hang them so each of them are about 2' 6" from the end of the tank. I would also not hang them any more than 10"-12" above the tank and no less than 6" above the water level. Also be sure and acclimatize your livestock to this intense lighting. I would get some plastic window screen and make 4-5 sheets of it to cover the tank. Then each week remove 1 of the sheets. Best of luck!

As long as you position your corals the right way you should be alright.
Why didn't you go with the Lumenarc's?

how many hours a day should i have them on...

i got them from hellolights
i have a white ball behind the tank.. dude my eyes hurt from looking at the tank.. they r bright as ****..
i have no canopy so the light goes everywhere... i have them hanging like 9 inches over the waters surface..
the lights r a reaaaaaaally bright white/blue.. like 4 250w 10ks with a **** load of actinics

people say coralline likes blue light spectrum.. if i dont get coralline flowing like lava onto my rocks from this lighting, i dunno what im gonna do..

What kind of ventilation/cooling do you have for your tank?

ccc, thats a phat lookin setup you have there pal, post some full tank shots and the works on it, good to hear you only have two over a 6 foot long tank. i thought that my 5 footer would need more, guess not, im glad this will be all i need is two over my 5 foot long reef.

I had the same problem with heat until I bought a couple of fans that I hooked up to the same timer that turns my lights on. Now when the lights turn on the fans blow across the surface of the water and evaporate tank water to control the temp. I have 2 set up like this and a third run on a temp controller. Keeps my temp within 1 deg f day and night.

I'm sorry, but can't these type of questions be answered in the lighting equipment forum? It doesn't seem to have anything to do with sps.

Thanks for asking
The tank is been running for 6 weeks. On top of that its full of aragocrete so I have a long way to go. Its going to be mainly an sps tank. Here is some info
2 ASM skimmers I run ozone in one
Geo ca reactor
No Chiller just an exhaust system that pulls air from the canopy and the sump area

I use a fan inside the canopy connected to a Medusa controller. So far I have had no more than 2 degrees of fluctuation we will see how it goes in the summer.
CL through a Performancepro pump (which I have been very happy with) @3600 gph through 3 1"sea swirls.

I have been without a tank since June and Im glad to have this one up and running.
