Incoming Dwarf Angelfish, what should I be looking out for?

I use a 10G QT for observation and only treat for what I see. With that in mind, I have had better success with one particular LFS as opposed to all the other ones and online retailers in terms of getting healthy fish that I do not need to treat for any diseases.

I plan to get the small dwarf angel i can get whenever they get more in and I can confirm it's eating at the store. It will likely be a flame angel, so I was wondering what diseases are most common for angels to get. I heard that flame angels, and others are particularly sensitive to copper, so how would I treat for Ich if I see it on the body of my new fish? Also, I would like to get ahold of and research any of the diseases I should be observing that I may not have encountered before. I used Cupramine on my clownfish when I got them as they showed signs of Ich, but that's all the experience with medication I've had so far.

I would look for flukes as well as other diseases like ich, velvet, brook, ect.
I would suggest doing two rounds of prazipro for flukes and if ich, then look into tank transfer.

Tank transfer not an option, I honestly do not have the space for it. What else?

Also, where on LI are you? I work in 11801

I work in Centereach and live in Mineola.
I personally have had really bad luck with flames in the recent years. I tried 3 of them and was never able to get them passed a couple of weeks in qt. They would start great and then down hill after the 3rd week or so. so I gave up on them. I read somewhere that it might be something with the way they are collected or shipped.

i plan to run carbon in the QT as they are apparently collected with cyanide a lot of the time. Hoping that will help remove it from the water volume once it leaches out of them.

Did you end up getting a different type of dwarf angel?

I dont think carbon does anything for cyanide. Once its in the fish system it has already caused major internal damage.
no, no more dwarf angels. the only angel I have is a adult Emperor.

I am thinking that I will have the LFS across from Cheesecake factory order me a flame or coral beauty from Sustainable Aquatics. That would give me the best chance of avoiding that type of issue from any poisons.

I assume you are talking about aquarium village. yeah they are good over there.
Just make sure you have some prazipro and formalin (last resort for stubborn flukes) on hand just in case.

Yea, I heard they had trouble when they were getting started, but they are good people and havent had a death yet from any fish I got there. Not to say they are healthier than anywhere else, but if i was betting on something, i'd bet on the life of a fish from there versus other locations on the island. Some places just give horrible advice.

Gonna go in today and ask if they can order me one from that supplier though, get a quote

If you see ich and can't do TTM, and don't want to risk copper on an angel, I'd look into chloroquine phosphate.

Is that just something i can pick up on the shelf? or is that something that is incorporated in products I would need to order? Maybe PM might be better if you are worried about saying any companies specific product, but that type of information would be useful to me. Preferably, if you know of a thread that details how to use that properly, i would love to read up on that treatment.
