Inexpensive beginner corals?

Are there any very easy, inexpensive ($15 max) corals that would fit into a 3 gallon tank? Also, can they be under led lighting?

I wasnt saying right now. Was just pointing out that he should save some space in his tank for later on when he might want sps. A big frogspawn can take up whole 3 gallon tank...

I was thinking maybe just some ricordia mushrooms. Would these be OK? Where should I put them in the tank and how expensive are they?

Also, I don't want to do some beautiful tank with coral everywhere. Just some sort of little coral to brighten up the place a bit (just 1 coral). I'd prefer something that spreads too, like mushrooms or colony polyps.:wildone:

All that will be in the tank anyway is a few hermits and micro brittle stars. Could a clown goby fit in here as well?

Green Star Polyps very colorful and cheap. It's also a good coral for beginner.

My theory is that ricordias prefer an established tank. If you tank has been set up for a while go for it. I've seen some sweet nano tanks with ricordia. Your standard frags go for around $30-50. They can be finicky and don't always spread as well as standard mushrooms.

Standard mushrooms are pretty bulletproof and you can find some interesting/rare color morphs. The hairy mushrooms will take over your tank and spread quickly.

You could also have a mini acan farm. Although these tend to grow slowly they are pretty cool corals imo. You can get as fancy as you want here. Acans come in all sorts of colors.

Zoas are another option although they can sometimes be finicky.

You might be able to find some GSP for $15 because it's a pest in most peoples tanks. Or perhaps a mushroom or brown zoa frag. If it were me I'd spend another $15 and get something that will pop.

Zoas and mushrooms would be a good way to go. I believe you'd be fine with ricordeas as well, but know that they can be temperamental regarding lighting and flow.

You should also be able to score some green star polyps for cheap, but they grow so fast many folks do not like them.

Green Star polyps look nice and could fit your budget and since your tank is small you should have no trouble keeping it in check should it start to spread too much.

I went to my lfs and got some LR that had sme palys on em. I got lucky i guess. didnt want to spend money on something I could possibly kill. that was when I was getting started tho.
