Inhabitant Photos

Ok, so I know I have a couple of expensive hobbies. I also like photography although I am not that good at it. Right now I use a Nikon D300 and the following pictures were taken with a Sigma 150mm f 2.8 lens on a Manfrotto monopod. Unfortunately my glass was not as clean as I thought. A couple of the fish (Clarks Clown and Pacific Blue Tang) will be going back to the store when I rebuild my 90G tank later this winter. The other 2 fish I may put in my new 65G tank that I started to build 2 weeks ago. I really need to sharpen my skills. i will miss the Clarks and the Pacific Blue. Here are the fish.

Hopefully both my reefkeeping and my photography skills improve.

I like the third pic with the hippo tang. The color on your tang really pops. Do you turn the pumps off to get all the suspended stuff out of the water column.

No the pumps were on and unfortunately the glass was not as clean as I had hoped. I will try to clean the glass and retake the pics. The third pic was one of my favorites. I also like the six line even though it is a little out of focus.

Aside from the six line, which is nice BTW, it looks like you are slightly off with your focus. (I realize it's difficult to shot fish as they are constantly moving.) The eyes should be the main focus point.

Turning off the pumps will help a bunch.

Are you doing any post processing?

Gotta love the Siggy 150! Wish I had a D300 to attach to it, but my poor lil D40 works good.

Yep. I had a D50 that I loved then it died. I got the D300 as a step up and have struggled with focus ever since. I am ready to take it to the store for a week and see if it is me or the camera. I know I have shaky hands but it was not this bad with the D50. I post process using the most recent Photoshop Elements. I also use Lightroom and Aperture, but I am still a rookie with the programs. I also switched to a Mac, so my world is totally upside down right now. I have the tools I just need to learn how to use them. The Sigma lenses are outstanding and very nice on price!!!

My three favorite lenses:

Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS
Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 OS
Sigma 150mm f2.8 OS

The Nikkor I bought used at less than half price. Great lenses. Problem is the equipment can only compensate for so much hand shake.
