Innovative Marine 18 Watt Skkye Light Clamp LED - Thoughts?

Hello all,

I just purchased the IM Nuvo Fusion 20 and it comes with two 18 Watt Skkye Light Clamp LEDs. I'm looking to house CB seahorses, some macros and polyps and the main goal is to keep temp and cost low, so I thought these lights will suffice. I don't see any reviews on them online. I see they're replacing the 8 watt Skkye LEDs. Any thoughts on these? Would two of these fixtures be able to sustain any low-light SPS on the top of the display? Or just stick to polyps and algae?

Failure 7 months after warranty expired

Failure 7 months after warranty expired

I purchased this light on 3/7/2015 and it failed on 10/14/2016. When I plug it in absolutely nothing happens.

Innovative Marine's response - basically that I am on my own since the warranty expired. I am willing to purchase whatever replacement part is needed as a more cost-effective resolution than buying a new light altogether, but do not know if the failure is related to the LED bulb or an electrical part. Again, Innovative Marine will not help in any way.

I am extremely disappointed with their aloof attitude, particularly after I relayed the time-sensitivity given the risk it poses to the coral in the aquarium I worked so hard to build over the past 18 months to the tune of $1.5k+ total investment since joining this otherwise exciting hobby.

In fact I opened a BBB complaint against Innovative Marine, which I hope will resolve this issue to my satisfaction. But it is a shame it had to come to this and leaves a bad taste in my mouth toward this hobby.

Products fail..
Manufacturers have set warranty periods..
Many manufacturers won't sell replacement parts..
Welcome to life..

IMO you can't file a BBB complain because a product failed outside of its warranty period.. They have done nothing wrong..

But thanks for posting your experience with the lifespan of the product.. It may help other reefers make a more informed decision in the future.
