Hi all. I have a 28g JBJ tank with the 150W lighting. This is an established tank, and has been doing great! Till now.:uhoh3:
I have all softies in tank that have been doing well, except for a toadstool that I accidently sucked with the water changing hose. I have a rose anemone, pistol shrimp and yellow watchman goby. I have a lawnmower blenny, and a sexy shrimp. I had a pair of snowflake clowns. HAD! One clown has disappeared. My tank has been doing awesome, I checked all levels, no ammonia present, no nitrates or nitrites. No algae problems. Nothing.

This is the second clown I have lost. The other one I lost was about 4 months ago. The only thing I see in my tank that might be a danger is the following.

Bristle Worms
Aiptasia
Rose Anemone??
Pistol Shrimp?

The fish was very healthy. Heck I just took a pic of my tank this past Monday and both clowns are in pic. Does anyone have suggestions or maybe see something I am overlooking? This makes me very sad to lose one of the clowns.

I don't think any of those creatures you named could kill a clownfish. You can definitely scratch aiptasia and bristle worms off the list for sure.

Very mysterious.

I doubt anything in your tank killed them, unfortunate about your loss though. What are you keeping your Sg at and given that you have an MH light, what do your temps look like through the day?

Ive had a few fish disappear out of thin air too, but not clownfish. Clownfish arent known for jumping out of tanks like many other fish, which is what i blame the disappearance of mine

They're hard to find because theyre small, flop around away from the tank and then shrivel up to to almost nothing. I once found a missing fish months after it jumped. So I wouldnt pass on the possibility.

Yes, I 'assumed' (we know what that does!) that the tank was covered. Otherwise jumping would have been high on my list of possibilities. Clowns are not notorious for jumping, but it does happen.

I went to lfs today and adopted an arrow crab. No sign of clown. I stayed up all last night thinking maybe I had a rock crab. All I really ever saw was LOTS of red spiny worms. IDK. I bought tweezers to get some worms out. They are about six inches long and super gross! Thanks for replies. Still scratching my head. LOL. I hope it wasn't the pistol shrimp.
