Instant Ocean 160 Gallon Bucket

The least expensive place for me to buy this product that I have found so far is through drfosterandsmith. It's surprising to me that I can get something that weighs in excess of 50 lbs. shipped to me for less than I can buy it in a store, but this appears to be the case. The price shipped at this website is $44. Cheapest I've found in town is Petsmart which was $49 on sale. $5 less and I don't have to lug the heavy bucket around.

Where do you buy your salt?

you can print out the price at petsmart.com and get the bucket for 30 something. but drfosterandsmith is really cheap.

I plan on buying at least 3 buckets from drfosterandsmith to make it worth while, thats what i think you should do, would save you shipping if you buy one at a time.

I think $11 is the most you will pay for shipping no matter how many buckets you buy at Dr. Foster/smith. That's the way it was about 2 years ago when I horded the 200 gallon buckets when they quit making them.

It's still a great deal at Foster & Smith for $44 including shipping. But great idea to print the online price and get them to match it. That's what I'll be doing now.

If i place 3 buckets in my cart, it says i can add something like $23 more worth of stuff before i have to pay more for shipping.

you usually have to fight with them to get them just to price match their own online price. i doubt they would match big als

You can use the coupon "dodge" on Drs Foster and Smith for an additional 15% off. I used this last night on some Reef Crystals and it more than made up the freight charges. Hopefully it is still working.

Is it true that Instant ocean lacks certain nutrients for reef and even for fish ?

Absolutely not. Many, and i mean many, people have thriving reef aquariums and fish only aquariums using nothing more than instant ocean salt. I use reef crystals, which just has a tad more trace elements to help with coral.

IO is just a little bit lower in calcium and magnesium than reef crystals. For a full blown reef setup you would want to suppliment IO with some extra calcium and magnesium after you mix it up. Reef crystals could use a touch more magnesium in my opinion.

I would honestly rather spend $44 at drsfostersmith then support Petsmart with $30.

??? I think you are getting PetsMart and Petco confused. I find PetsMart to be a fine establishment. Petco on the other hand..... Well, anyway. Print out the online price and they will price-match in the store. ;)
