Interceptor getting harder to come by?

Sorry all, I know this topic has been repeatedly mentioned again and again. So I'm feeling pretty stupid asking about this.

I'm trying to deal with a strong red bug infestation and I've tried the Lugol's treatment with only moderate success. A few bugs appear to have survived the dip and have now re-plagued my few remaining Acros. I really don't like the Lugol's treatment as the corals definately react poorly and lose thier color.

I've quarantined all acros to a hospital tank and want to try the interceptor method.

Only problem is, I'm finding it impossible to come by online. It almost looks like all the Canadian Pharmacy stores are getting threatened with lawsuits for selling this stuff without a perscription.

Anyone know where I can get this stuff? I have small dogs so I don't know if small dog pills would actually work. I would have to convince my vet to get me Interceptor when she already filled a perscription for HeartGaurd.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks all!

ive just walked in to the vets and been straight up with them , explained what i was doing and they were actually amazed about it. been 2 times and never had a problem getting doses.but i live in a nice area, lol

I even took a picture of my tank to them to show what I was doing with it. He even wished me luck as I was leaving. So yea, just go to the vet and be honest with them and you should not have a problem.

take a copy of the "instructions" to the vet and be honest. my vet was curious and more than happy to sell them to me.

I appreciate the advice, everyone.

I guess location makes a difference. I tried placing an order with them but got the following message in a popup window:

1-800-PetMedsÃ"šÃ‚® is not presently licensed in the state you are shipping your order to, and unfortunately cannot ship prescription items into this state. However, we can fill your requests for the non-prescription items your pet may need!! Please be patient while we obtain the licensure that allows us to provide savings and convenience on all your pet's prescription needs!!

Apparently the laws governing perscription pet medications have chnaged in the past few years to be more restrictive. At least in some states.

Ditto.....honesty worked for me also....and I didn't even HAVE the bugs. I have been adding so much to my tanks that I wanted to treat all new arrivals.

I took the Instructions to my vet and had no problem. I did my research as well and found the "small dog" pills effectively treat about 38g and with a 37g (about 29g water) I didn't have to worry about weighing or splitting etc... Only problem is my vet only uses heartgard so I had to wait for the vet that works every other Saturday to fill my order.

Interestingly they mentioned they had another "patient" that uses a dog/cat medicine to treate something entirely unrelated.

I got that same message, but they still delivered it to me. I hope you are not CIA trying to get evidence for places selling interceptor.

ha ha ha!!

No druluv. I'd think that the Feds would definately troll these message boards if they wanted to find out though.

Naw 1800 pet meds displayed this message and when I went to check out the item had mysteriously dissappeared from my shopping cart.

I did talk to my vet today and her approach to the problem was that vets will tend to use medications for 'cross application' purposes all the time and that the request was totally understandable.

From a vet perspective she was concerned about all of my 'pet's' well being ( hey corals are pets too right?). I just explained how my corals where dying slowly and that the anthropod was a parasite.

She agreed with me and added that Interceptor is used to control anthropod parasites for various purposes and this application would not be out of line for what the medication was intended for.

She wanted to first check with other colleagues to verify that this was an acceptable solution. I got the impression that some of her vet friends have reef tanks. If that's the case then I have nothing to worry about thanks to the efforts of DustinDorton and how he publicized this and documented the success of reefers who have tried this.

I'll let you know how this turns out. It's interesting to get a vet's perspective on these things since they are the experts.

Where are the instructions for this method? Does any one know the success on Mantis? If I treat my display, how long before I put my shirimp and BL hermits back in?

The dosage used in an aquarium to kill redbugs is 25mg (0.025 grams) per 10 gallons of actual tank water . That is 25mg of the entire tablet. Each tablet in the pack of 6 will treat about 380 gallons. The tablets are ground with a mortar and pestle into a fine powder.

Ok, I am a little confused, 25mg (one pill) treats 380 gallons. But he said at a rate of 25mg per 10gallons????

I have about 250 gallons of actual water that I am going to treat. I need less than one pill right?

HELP!!

yes a little less than one pill is right. A little over 3/4 should do fine. Good luck!

That is the same thing that I noticed in the directions is that 25mg will treat 10g of tank water but one pill(25mg) is supposed to treat a full 380 gallons. I am going to ask Dustin himself just to make sure we are both on the same page.
