Internal Water Flow

How much flow should I have in a 90 with a 30 sump. It will be a fola with some soft corals down the road. I have been reading 30x or more with some tanks. IS this really needed?

Would I need a closed loop system? Are there alternatives to Oceans Motions.

you don't need a closed loop unless you don't want powerheads in your tank. but I like 20x or more flow in my tank for softies however I have 68x turnover but I have a mix of corals from softies to SPS

I would always have at least a 20x turnover rate for all tanks. The flow needed can also be based on your substrate. For example, people with BB tanks have an a lot larger turnover rate.
