introducing new fish and dipping procedures?

so i was wondering how people go about adding a new to either a qt tank or the main display.

i read people dip their fish but which way around do you do it but i surpose it might depend on what your dipping the fiish in?

so you've bought the fish, you get it home now do you:

acclimatize the fish first then add it to the qt tank or display and then dip it and throw back into qt/display (or acclimatize back in????)

dip the fish first then acclimatize then add to qt/display?

acclimatize, dip then add to qt\display tank?

or acclimatize to qt tank then leave the fish to get settled and eating well the do the dipp? do you then need to acclimatize the fish back in?

if you don't dip is there any other procedures you do with the fish as soon as you get it back from the store?

By dipping, are you referring to putting the fish into a fresh water or very low salt content water or medicated water? Curious.

Also, if that is what you mean, I would acclimate my fish, then dip, then QT (if I had one at the moment =( ) then show tank.... although, is dipping or QT needed if one or the other is being used?

Usually I clean out my tank when new arrivals come, so I just siphon out some of the old water into the fish bag and use that as a semi drip method.
but as for dip method I've never used one but would love to find out more

I use the drip acclimation method. Usually a 2-3 hr time depending on fish. Then I put fish in container dosed with formalin for 30-50 minutes while temp. Acclimating at the same time

Do you dilute the formalin at all?

Also, after the formalin do you use a lower salinity dip for 30 or seconds afterwards to rinse them off? I still haven't done this and am wondering the effectiveness of it, as well as stress level causing of this procedure.

I acclimate the fish to QT standards, then place it in the QT. Once the fish is eating and acting normal, if it then has any disease issues the QT/fish is medicated appropriately.

I belive this will cause less stress than dipping in FW, etc by comparison and be more effective against a known disease.
