On behalf of the Palm Beach Marine Aquarium Society (PBMAS), I would like to extend a warm invitation to our fellow hobbiest of FMAS. On May 27th, we are holding one of our monthly meetings. We have an awesome speaker invited, Greg Schiemer. Below is the meeting information as posted in our website (www.pbmas.org):

The May 2006 PBMAS meeting will be held on May 27th at 6 PM at the Hospice of Palm Beach County. Directions and address below. We are proud to bring you our second guest speaker of the year. Our guest speaker for this meeting will be Greg Schiemer. Greg an avid hobbiest who has been keping marine tanks for well over 20 years. Greg has also written countless articles for multiple online and print marine aquarium magazines in a large variety of subjects. He has also been a speaker in numerous marine conferences here in the US like MACNA and abroad as well. To say this guy is a guru is an understatement. However, he is also a very nice guy and a very good speaker.

In this meeting, Greg plans to discuss techniques on how to select and condition fish that may not be thought of as "reef safe". An abstract of his presentation is below:

Fish in the Reef Aquarium: Myths and Misinformation

Can I put this fish in my reef aquarium? It's probably the most common question on the various internet bulletin boards and forums. Unfortunately there are very few definitive answers. There are a lot of myths and misinformation about what fish can and can't be safely kept in reef aquariums. There are also a lot of fish that aren't typically considered for inclusion in reef aquariums but actually make great residents in these tanks. This presentation will introduce aquarists to some of these atypical fish as well as discuss their particular needs and behaviors in the reef aquarium.

Due to the expenses involved in bringing speakers from out of town and the relative small size of our club, non-paid members will be required to pay a $15 attendance fee each to this meeting. If you want to join at the meeting to also take advantage of all the other perks as a member, you are very encouraged to do so, and the meeting fee will be waived. There will be applications and membership cards on hand to anyone needing them.

This meeting should be fun and very educational to all level reefers, so plan to attend. Your membership fee is making this posible for everyone, so enjoy it.

Thank you Alberto, Sounds like a can't miss meeting, I am going to try to make it now that we are in the slow season. Anybody who wants to take the ride let me know I have space for three more people maybe four if you are slim :)

Just a quick bump to remind everyone that the meeting is next weekend. Mark your calendars!!!!!!!!!!!

The PBMAS May meeting has been cancelled. Greg Schiemer's dad has just passed away and he, understandibly so, will not be able to make it down. We will try to re-schedule him for the fall possibly. Sorry for the late notice, but these things cannot be planned.
