iodine dip coral help

Why do you want to dip the coral? Do you have pests like redbugs or nudibranchs, or are you trying to provide the coral with iodine for growth/health?

If you want to add iodine as a trace element, you can do that without dipping the coral. If you need to treat the coral for pests, you (hopefully) shouldn't have to dip very often.

In this case, your best bet is probably to iodine dip your new acquisitions before you add them to your tanks. I don't think that pulling all of your corals out for an iodine dip on a routine basis would be a good idea.

I would think with a larger tank with livestock constantly going in and out, the chances of infection would be greater.

I agree with KarlBob, iodine dip before the coral goes in the tank, and then only if you are having or suspect a pest problem.

Depends on how long of a QT process you have. Iodine will kill some pests, but not their eggs. You'd need to find out the life cycle of each pest, and determine how long it takes their ages to hatch, how long it takes them to reach sexual maturity and so on... You may need to dip when you acquire the coral, and then dip again, once eggs have hatched, to have more success.

Can you suggest one brand and what is the dosage?

Lugols is typically the favorite iodine because it is pharmecuitcal grade. I believe their dip instructions is 20 drops per gallon but most people do a half gallon or small catch cup and add enough drops to turn the water the color of iced tea.

Also ReVive works really well at killing pests too.
