Is 500w too much for a 75?

I already have a 250w 14000k metal halide over my tank but was thinking of adding another so I can lower them without worrying about the plastic support(don't want to melt it or weaken it). Am I adding too much light or would it be okay? I have softies and lps but am moving toward sps also.

i have 940 watts over a 75 gal tank 2 250 mh 4 110 vhos get some good fans for your canipe & it will be ok

Nope I have 500 watts of 14k halides over my 75 gallon. I am also running a couple of T5's with them. Youre fine =)
