Anyone have experience with this fish? The books say it is, but experience is always better.

i have one...he is the coolest guy ever....ive never seen him nip at anything. that is exept once when i put a bi color blenny in the tank...he gave him 1 bit and then left him alone..

AFAIK, they are zooplankton feeders. The one I had was never with SPS, other than that, it was reef safe.

my midas is a great reef fish. active, friendly and very entertaining--oh and never nipped at anything.

I love mine! great guys with lots of personality...Mine loves to hang out in a hole in the rock, swimming, or resting on some mushroms...I would say 100% reef safe...mine never bothered a thing

Mine has never nipped at any corals. It is my favorite fish. He is a bit agressive at feeding time. He tries to steal from my clown gobies or chase them off, but they always get away with no problem and they are allowed to get plenty to eat too. I've read that they can attack and kill gobies, but I've never had any physical contact between them. They definetly can be jumpers though. Keep a canopy or covered top.

I had mine for about two and a half years befor he finally started heading down hill. In that time he was mixing into a wide variety of corals including SPS and never had a problem. One thing to keep in mind is that these fish do not have a swim bladder, so they use a lot of energy swiming. Mine was fine untill I added some chromis and he tried to swim with them all the time. If you find your's is doing a lot of swiming it's going to need food several times a day to keep up it's energy levels. I sure do miss old Frank (aka old blue eyes)...I still think they are one of the nicest looking fish out there.
