Is a rubberband reef safe

I dropped a rubberband in my tank earlier and it slipped in a small crevice in the rock that would require me to completely remove the majority of it to get to the rubber band. Think all will be well if I just leave it?

It will not be a problem lots of people use them to secure frags to rocks.

well I knew for the short term it would be alright. My concern was after a year or more in the tank if it would degrade and release any nasties into the water.
