Is bacteria for nitrifcation the same in fresh and saltwater

I am curious is the dinitrification bacterias the same bacteria in freshwater and saltwater?I would think not but everyone I have asked has not known the answer...please can someone answer this question...ty kcirtap1

There are many difference species of bacteria that perform this function. It is not as if there is one species for freshwater, and another for saltwater, there are many species. I would presume many of them can live in both conditions also. Regardless of species they all fall under the category of nitrifying bacteria. See the link above and you will get a better idea.

I am still learning myself. that wiki article was interesting to see the different kinds of bacteria. there are other links at the bottom that expand on it.

it looks like some are fresh only, some are salt only and some are both (not taking into account the ones that live in soil).
