Is it necessary to get a piece of the mouth?

When you frag a mushroom is it necessary to get a piece of the mouth? A few of the frags I cut last weekend I didn't think that I got a piece of it, but they have started to heal nicely...just curious if it simply has better success rates when you get a piece of it or what?

Thanks

I don't believe so. I have had a Ricordia Yuma move around on a rock and leave bits of fleshy tissue all over it from their foot. In a short time, new Ricordia were formed from this tissue.

I had to cut a ricordea florida a while back .. three pieces and only one piece had the mouth. They all made it and the two mouthless pieces are developing mouths.

Yeah, that mouth business seems to be an urban myth. You can practically cut any part of a healthy mushroom and have it attach and grow a whole new mushroom, no matter whether or not there was any mouth included.
