Is it okay to stain & seal the inside of my canopy

Wonderin' if this would be toxic to the fish. My main concern is keeping moisture out of the wood.

I painted mine white with spray paint like krylon from ace. Seals the wood and reflects the light.

Hans I work alot with wood. I did the whole paint routine and found that paint does not hold up very well over the years even if you use a bathroom/kitchen paint. I also used thompsons water seal it is only good for one year. Use a Minwax Hellmans Spar Urethane it is moisture/water, weather proof, and UV proof. Its the best in my opionion.
