Is my acan dying?

I bought a beautiful acan colony this last Saturday and it's starting to turn white in spots. The same thing started happening to a plate coral I've had for months. Then I noticed my copperband butterfly was harassing both of them. The copperband has moved out of the scenario to hopefully elevate that problem for the future but is it too late for my coral?

All water quality looks great.





I just took both of these pics so you can definitely see the plate's tentacles are still extended which i would think would be a good sign. They acan is to new for me to know it's "normal" routines.

thata not enough tissue loss to encourage an rtn situation, though I would do a dip anyways to kill off any potential bacterial post infections. I had a half black angel that destroyed about half of every acan and favia frag I owned. I dipped the frags and with the angel gone they puffed back up the next day like normal. It did take about two months for my acans to regrow over the skeleton, and altered the direction of growth from up to outward. Another possibility is that they will never grow back over the dead portions, but will continue to be healthy colonies everywhere else. In that case, the skeleton will eventually turn purple like live rock, and make it look a little more like organic encrustation.

Not to be a bearer of bad news, but your orange Fungia Plate is a goner. Once they get damaged they're done for.

All hope is not lost though as Fungia Plates will put out babies as a last ditch effort to save themselves. Even if you think the plate is a 100% bleached goner don't throw it away as it could take many many months for babies to show up.


Your acan can be saved. Looks like it's getting to much light and or flow. It's not as puffy as they should be. Feed it several times a week to help it recover.

I have 4 acans all doing ok, But just ok.
Polyps/ heads aren't fluffy or fully extended .
The colones are growing but never look great . Someone spoke about light levels. I may have to much light even thought they are at the bottom of the tank. What is the proper par level range for these LPS ?
