Is my sea horse going to be fine?

I just bought a sunburst seahorse and have never cared for a seahorse before. I have been feeding him grass shrimp that are gut feed cyclopeeze and flakes. I have read it is better to feed frozen mysids in a feeding area so I will make one but I am curious about the fish in my tank. I have a 20 gallon with 3 blue/green chromis a six line wrasse and the sea horse. they all seem to get along so far it is day two. Anything I should watch out for?

Hi
How are you feeding the mysis to your seahorse without the other fish stealing the food?Seahorses cant compete with other fish for food. They are slow swimmers/eaters.
Have a great day,Becky

I think that the chromis and the wrasse are both likely to stress the seahorse with their swimming patterns, especially in that small of a space. I'm also a little worried about the bioload on the 20. A single seahorse can put quite a bioload on a 20 gallon even without the 3 chromis and the wrasse.

Watch for your seahorse to stop feeding, and watch for bubbles or white spots on the skin, and heavy breathing. They are all signs of a problem. I would also expect your seahorse to stop swimming (if it ever even attempted swimming with those tankmates).

He doesnt seem to eat mysis right now but I can get my fish not to eat the mysis. the sea horse only seems to eat live grass shrimp. any suggestions on training him to eat mysis.

I am not to worried about the bio load since I do a 15% water change every week. Also he does swim around occassionally but usually hangs out in the area I made for him that has plants for him to hang on. I honestly believe I can get him to survive if he will eat mysis. He does eat but it is quite a pain getting grass shrimp all the time and the six line also compete for the shrimp. The shrimp usually end up hiding on my water pump though where the sea horse and six line cant get them so I have been catching them in a net and then using tongs to feed the sea horse.

There are lots of articles on the net about training horses to eat frozen but I've never done it myself. My horses were raised on frozen and don't seem to be interested in live.I've bought small ghost shrimp for them before and they wouldn't chase after them.I think they are spoiled to having their food sitting
in a dish and wouldn't put forth the effort to go after them!
Good Luck,Becky

could you post a link to one of those articles? I would really appreciate it, I dont know exactly where to look.

It's against this forums rules to promote other forums here but you can use a search engine to "Google"any seahorse forum and you'll be amazed at what comes up.Good luck again,Becky

I have had the seahorse about a week now and he seems to be fine. I have been purchasing live grass shrimp, around 20 at a time, every two days and gut feeding them before putting them into the tank. I dont usually see the seahorse personally eat them but he looks healthy and I am assuming he gets them at night or when I am away because he often snaps at shrimp that go by him. He is very slow though. I have seen the seahorse eat shrimp in person but I have not in a while. I try to feed him shrimp with a tong but he usually looks bewildered. So far no luck with mysids at all.
