Is there one medication...

Is there one medication that can be effectively used that will treat both Marine Velvet (Amyloodinium) and Brooklynella? According to my reading, copper sulfate is the treatment of choice for Velvet, and Formalin and Malachite green are the treatments for Brooklynella. I believe I need to treat the fish in my QT for both before returning them to my display tank. Fish are currently symptom free (and always have been) but their previous display tankmates died of one of the above. If the diseases need to be treated w/separate meds, what would the timing be? They just went into quarantine yesterday and I plan to keep them there 6 weeks. Thanks for any help!

First of all Formadin and Malachite green might not be used the same time not a 100% sure but this is what it says on the product I bought. Normally it should be cured within 7 days. Itch might take a bit longer depending on the product you use.

Formalin also can be used for itch but is not quite as succesful as malachite green or copper based medicines. You can find more in the "sticky" posts.

Thanks for the responses. I did read the info about the dip test. My dilemma is that neither fish in my QT is showing symptoms of anything, and never did. However they were removed from a display tank where several fish died of either Marine Velvet or Brook. In the pictures I have looked at of fish with these two diseases, the fish look very similar and I am not very experienced. I'm letting the DT run fallow for 6 weeks figuring that all stages of either parasite will have died by then. I have been unable to find good info about whether my two QT'd fish can be carriers of the disease without showing symptoms (and should be treated). In reading about both diseases, it seems like they are nearly always fatal if untreated and that my two fish should be dead already if they were carriers of the parasite. I hate to submit healthy fish to the stress of treatment, but I want to avoid them carrying anything back to the display. Already took out most of the rockwork once to catch the Chromis. I will never put fish in the tank without QT!

The two primary purposes of QTing are to allow your fish to acclimate to captivity and to prevent disease.

When I Qt i normally give my fish a formalin bath before they go into the QT ... that helps reduce brook as a problem and lets me focus on amylo. I also keep a hypo QT which helps reduce the chances of ich.

Might consider a similar procedure.
