ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ 75 gallon standard 48" AGA reef-ready with a corner overflow, stand and canopy
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ 50 lbs live rock
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ 4 inch sand bed (established 4 years)
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ Turbofloater in-sump model protein skimmer
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ Return pump (not sure model) 1.5 years old
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ The lighting is 36" 96 watts VHO (about 220 watts total) and are 3 months old. The ballast is an electronic ARO ballast and is 1 year old.
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ 30 gallon glass sump
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ skimmer is 3 years old, skimmer pump is oceanrunner and 1 yr old
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ 3 fish ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ Yellow tang, six line wrasse, green chromis

Initial asking price is $600? Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m trying to figure out if this is a deal or not. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m somewhat concerned about it considering it is an established, working reef tank and may have disease, etc. This would be my first official reef so I want to start off well.

I already have a 75 gallon tank, stand and canopy but it is not drilled and I have no other parts. My decision ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ purchase or DIY all other parts (sump, skimmer, pumps, lighting, etc) or buy this system and consolidate to one tank, sell the other.

What would you do???

Thanks!

in my honest opinion i would DIY this one like you were in the beginning, seems a little pricey to me for a 75 gallon with that equiptment list that you posted and the age of some of them. do yourself a favor, 'do it yourself' hope this help's...:)

seems a bit high. pump/skimmer probably not great and the lighting is probably too soft for most coral.

That really isn't a bad deal. The tank and stand combo is going for $399 new around here on sale right now without a canopy and only a single NO strip light. A Turboflotor with the Oceanrunner 2700 needlewheel pump is a very good skimmer combination worth at least $100 used. 50 lbs of live rock if it is anything at all would be $200 or more new and even $100 from a friend if it has any growth or color on it. The sand probably shouldn't be reused at least right away. You could dry it out and rinse it for future use but moving it could disrupt the stratification and bacteria and cause problems. Tha ballast and endcaps are probably worth $75 used and could probably power 46.5" or 48" bulbs. Sumps are about $1 per gallon used at the LFS so $30.
Take the pieces you want from both systems and sell the rest to recoup your investment.

Thanks for the input

Thanks, I think I'm going to go with the majority and DIY it with my existing tank, stand, canopy
