is this a good powerhead??

heard that some stop sweep after a few months of use. But it depends on what youa re wanting to keep as to how much flow your are going to need. If for FOWLR then a couple mJ900 will be better and more flow. HTH

They do work, but you need to keep them super clean. Worst case though is they stock rotating and you basically end up with a Maxijet 600.

Agreed but the maintenance required is just a pain in the you kno what ...

You can do the MJ mod that is on the DIY forum that will increase the flow amount and give it a wide flow like a seio or tunze. It does require some DIY skills but seems easy to do. It is call the DIY maxijet stream mod I think or some thig like that or thr hitch hickers guide tot he MJ mod is one as well. HTH

You can take off the whole lower assembly and remove all the rotating parts. It makes a pretty nice wide diffuse stream then. I use gasket lubricant on the internal parts for mine and they run great,

For all those that responded, particularly negatively, who actually owns one and speaks with experience versus heresay? I own one and it works fine - the manufacturer did have a problem and they replaced an internal part (plastic pin) to resolve. As with any powerhead they do need occasional cleaning - but from my experience they do work fine (BTW I have the Powersweep 228).

Mine started leakign electricity into my mixing bucket. It also melted in my mixing bucket and it was a PITA to clean the bucket out.

I'd stay away from them.

I think any tank gear has the possibility of melt down etc... I am sure there are people on this board that have had maxijets, rio's etc nuke on them. I like the power sweeps and Zoomed stands behind the product. They will take care of you. They do require some attention but for for the money vs time spent keeping them clean etc I would buy them again.... and have.

I have 2 of them in my tank the biggest model they make and I just do regular maintence on them I take them out of the tank clean the sponge and take off the bottom part that snaps off easily and clean all the internal parts I've had them now for over 6 months and they work fine they give good movement with in the tank... The manufacter selld replacement parts if they do break or mal function and other than that I'm pleased with them...
