Is this a good size for sohal surgeonfish?

Im really new, and I was wondering if a sohal surgeonfish would work in a 30 gallon high? Thanks in advance.

Make that a 300 gallon tank, and it MIGHT work. So, no it will not work in a 30 high, nor with any other tang.

+1. Sohal is one of the biggest and MOST aggressive tang. It MIGHT work in a 300g tank, but sometimes it still doesn't.

A 30g can only house fish that don't get bigger than 3-4". Examples are the regular clownfish (ocellaris or percula), small gobies, firefish, etc. Liveaquaria.com is pretty accurate in terms of minimum tank size most of the time, so use that as a reference. Go to liveaquaria.com and enter the name of the fish you are looking for, read the descriptions, and then do more research online.

One word of caution, do not buy any fish without extensive research. It's both a responsibility and a way to prevent you from having future problems and headache (and heartache).

+1 Sohal tangs are very aggressive, you need a LARGE tank for a sohal. As mentioned above, extensive research and planning will safe you money and frustration. It is always best to think long term rather than short term

Sohals are such beautiful tangs, but are aggressive. If I had a large tank (300+), I'd definitely purchase one, but I "only" have a 180.

You could do one in a 180 but then move it in the future.

Move it where? Going to be difficult to find a home for a large tang that has a larger mean streak.

Better off purchasing fish that can spend their lifespan in the tank that one currently has, and not one that they may have in the future; or trying to find a new and appropriate home for it.

Rehoming fish after they outgrow your tank is very bad practice on any hobbyist's part. If you can't keep it in the tank you have upon purchase of the fish, then you shouldn't have gotten it. There is way more hassle and stress in catching fish that outgrow your tank than most think. You will stress other fish in the tank while you are catching the one that you can no longer have. Not worth it IMO/IME. Save the money and hassle of that fish and get something that will work now, or put that money towards an upgrade to the proper sized tank.

Amazing fish, but it need a very larger tank and does not get along with anything it seems. I learned the hard way.:thumbdown

No tang should be in a 30 gallon, unless it's being qt'd
