Is this brook?
Well, I'm happy to say that after spending some time reading suggestions on how to catch fish I found one tip that suggested turning the lights on full blast in the middle of the night. Just as the tip suggested, the fish were a bit groggy from sleep and blinded by the light and within about 10 or 15 minutes I had caught 7 fish, including the clown that was pictured and a spotted face tang that seemed to be suffering a bit as well.
There are still more fish to catch, but the ones I caught filled up the temporary containers that I had set up, so I will need to set up some additional containers tomorrow and try to catch the rest tomorrow night.
I still question whether this is brook. The spotted face tang seemed to be covered with individual dots that looked more like ick or maybe velvet to me, but I'm not sure I trust my diagnosis at all. I gave the clown and the tang a freshwater dip, since they seemed to be in the worst shape and everything I read suggested that may give them some immediate relief from external parasites. The other fish didn't seem bad, so I skipped the freshwater dip on them in the hopes of minimizing stress.
I did manage to get some formalin from my LFS today, but I'm a bit nervous to use it if I don't need to. The formalin they gave me just came from an unmarked container in their back room, so I don't know what the concentration is, plus she said it was several years old, so I'm not sure if it's even still good. Additionally it seems like pretty scary stuff.
If anyone has any ideas about whether this is brook or if I should go ahead and try to treat some or all of the fish with formalin I would definitely appreciate the suggestions.
Thanks again

Brett
