Is this enough flow for a BTA?

I recently had a BTA die on me. I'm pretty sure the cause was light acclimation plus my cleaner shrimp stressing it out. However, flow might have contributed to it as well. I can see there is a current there and I assumed it was enough. Can you tell from this video if it is? (Bubbles are from my skimmer. When it's turned on, the only thing it seems to do is spit out bubbles.) The anemone liked the spot between the overhang in the middle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMGEA6d7TcQ&feature=youtu.be

While I'm at it, is that harmless red algae on the rocks, or cynobacteria? Should I do something to get rid of it?

Nice tank. I'm sorry for your loss.

I have macro algae in my tank too I actually like them and my clownfish sometimes sleeps in them. I don't think flow can put too much influence on Bta to the point of killing it unless it's blowing it off the rock.

As for bad algae I personally just wait for them to die out with good tank maintenance. This is the safest way to deal with it. Some people use chemicals to deal with the water levels or directly kill the algae. I personally don't recommend that.

So is that algae? Is it harmful?

What do you mean, killing it off would good maintenance? My nitrates, nitrites and ammonia are always 0, plus I do water changes. If that's all it takes to kill it off, why is it still there?

Bit off topic though. I still need answers to the flow question.

I'm still new, but you seem to have very little flow. I have lots of flow compared to yours on my Rose BTA. They seem to like it. They haven't moved or split. Been like that for like 6 months.

Can you take a pic of the red algae? I watched the vid on pmy phone and didnt notice anything standing out, other than the coraline, caulerpa, and probably green hair algae on the right.

As fas as flow, in my experience, bta's don't normally like high or direct flow. Mine have all liked low to moderate "wide" flow (not direct stream). Usually enough to see the tentacles swaying and moving in the current but not enough to be beating it up. Of course, it depends on the specific one and if its too much it will likely move away to a lower flow area.

From the vid, I can't really pick up on movement that well but it appears in my opinion to be too low. I would add at least one powerhead if it were me.

This is your 30 gallon in your signature? What equipment, etc do you have? Your skimmer is a hang on skimmer?

My old 20H and 20L setups had 2x koralia nanos with hob filters (this was long ago). My 40B had 1x koralia nano and 2x koralia 750 but now my current 40B has flow from the return pump along with a mp40 at its lowest lagoon mode setting right now. My gbta is on the opposite end across from the mp40 swaying around and my rbta is some what in the middle, pushed back not dorectly in the path of the mp40, it will sway when the random mode turns up, but will be tight bubbled up not moving at the lower random phases.

All of Lance's thoughts are spot on. It's hard to see on my phone but in the middle of the shot, yeah could be cyano on the rocks. Hard to tell though
