Is this healthy Ric behavior?

Got my first ric and he came attached to a small piece of dead coral. Soon after he began to move off of it and onto, sigh, my base rock. Yes, my fault. But here's the problem, he left a large chunk of his foot behind and has slowly been "ripping" himself free from it. I have seen him stick his foot out and drop a new baby - it isn't like that. He is moving away from his old spot and has left a piece of himself behind. A large chunk of foot not just a eraser-sized speck like when he made a baby. Also, the foot is now beginning to fluoresce. Am I just being paranoid and he left a exceptionally large baby/colony behind when he moved?

Also, would it be safe to clip that remaining thread with my fingernail?

Water parameters are all normal. He does need a bit more light (he reaches up) but that should be fixed when I replace the crappy stock Oddysea bulbs this weekend.

This is my first coral ( and the girlfriend actually bought it) so I dont want to see him die.

If it is moving by its self i guess it is okay. You can clip the threads or just let nature take its course. I hate the way mines look when they start to separate. It looks like something is coming from the frogspawn, what is it?

yep, that little piece of tissue will become a new polyp. the tiny thread will break on its own. Yumas spread like mad that way. I have a orange yuma that melted into a tiny speck when I first put it in the tank. 3 years later they are all over the place and get so huge they look like BTAs.
