is this live rock live

Is there a good way to tell if live rock has life in it. My lsf has it but I just don't know about it. It sits in a lighted tank. don't know how often the change the water or if they do. I realy need some but this stuff is 7 dollars a pound, and I don't want to pay 7 dollars a pound for just a peice of rock. Is there a website to order it for cheaper then that with shipping included. also what is the best macro algae for a hang on refugium? Thanks guys :eek2:

Cheato for the algae.
As for rocks, check the online vendors. It can be had for less then 7.00 a pound including shipping and it would still have lots of life left on it by the time you get it.

That's what I got for my 55g. It's decent rock, some rocks have great coralline, some aren't so great, but for the price, it's pretty good.

Also, I agree on chaetomorpha being the best macroalgae.
