Is this Normal for a BTA?

Hi folks,

I just purchased about 5 days ago a rose colored anemone. I have a quick question I was hoping I could get an answer to.

She's currently attached to the side of a rock, with part of the foot on my sand bed. The flow seems to be really good, and in fact when my wavemaker moves in one direction, part of the bottom will lift up slightly... All the arms seem to be extended, and move back and forth in the current. This is during the day period of my lighting scheme. About an hour or so after the halides and actinics shut off, and the moon lights come on, she seems to shrink up somewhat. Many of the arms still are extended, but there is definitely a size reduction. Once the halides and actinics come back on in the morning, she returns to her normal size. So, is this normal behavior for an anemone, or should I be concerned?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
L3

Sounds pretty normal, acclimation and expelling waste. Have you been feeding it yet, and how long has the tank been set up?

Thanks! Havent feed it yet. Whats the best way to do so? I thought it was a filter feeder more or less. I've put some mysis shrimp in the tank. Not sure if it's eaten any... Also, the tank is about 4 months old now.

The anemone can get much of what it needs from the light, but in order grow and especially for reproduction it will need to be fed. My LTA loves silversides, kryll can be a good food as well. Small chunks are best. To feed it just put the food in the tentacles and let them bring the food to the mouth. You may want to watch it to make sure it eats the food and keeps it down. My anemone seems to have some specific tastes and wont eat kryll.
