well I called a local vet to see about getting my dog fixed and the price is between 200-250

is this about average for around here or is this particular vet just expensive?

back in ND it was about 90 bucks, if that is just how much it costs down here, then I can live with it, but Im just wondering if that is standard or high

Before someone else does, I highly recommend Webster Groves Animal Hospital. They have excellent care and their prices are amongst the cheapest. They even guarantee low price on pet meds, or they will match the price.

It is a nice facility.

thanks howie,

on their website it says dog spaying 0-25 pounds $107...I think a 15 mile drive is worth saving 100 bucks

HOLY COW YOU GUYS PAY OUT THE WAZOO! The vet here charges $75 for a large dog. Don't know if it's worth the drive, but I'd call around Farmington first :)

Seems to me a large dog would be easier to find the tube on than a little runty dog. <--Can you tell I only like big dogs? :D

I think I'd vote for saving the gas money and the added stress on the dog from the drive back home. Not to mention spending the day waiting on your doggie touring the bustling metropolis that is known as Farmington.

:D :D

Im training to be a vet techinician right now.I think that is a bit much to pay myself.Call around and compare prices. That would be your best bet.Alot of clinics have a set price(good for business)Others charge for how much anesthsia is used etc. Also you can have them do a print out of ALL the charges. They could include other things that you dont possibly want.Sometimes depending on the breed they will do full physicals first, which include lab work.Since some breeds dont handle anesthia as well as others. And that can be costly also.So i would definetly check into what you will be charged for before I took my dog there.

You should check out Operation SPOT:
http://opspot.org/

They are a non-profit that organizes low-cost spaying and neutering events, to fight pet overpopulation. I think their next event is Sep 9-10. Their number is on their site - you might give them a call.

Cat neutering is $10; I think dogs are more. They may be intended for low-income families, but I'm not sure about that - it is something to ask. If you can get it done through them, you could give them an extra donation and still save a good chunk of change.

EDIT: Oops, I just saw right on their home page that it is indeed for low-income families. I imagine you won't qualify, if you can afford a reef tank. ;-)

technically Im low income since my only income is student loans, but I wont take advantage of the system...thanks for highlighting a good organization ocicat
