Is this rusty stand dangerous?

Bought this 55 used. Been up and running for almost 3 years. Will be upgrading in a year, but wondering if this rust is something to be concerned about.

Thoughts?

I agree with GimpyFin, looks like surface rust, but it's hard to tell for sure. If the welds are still secure, a little surface rust is no big deal.

concur with the previous two.

the stand on my 20 long had a bunch of surface rust on it. i took it out in the yard, gave it a good scrub with some steel wool and 80 grit, then re-sprayed it with some flat black krylon. looked nearly as good as new.

as long as the rust isn't compromising a structural component, or starting to swiss-cheese anything, it shouldn't be an issue. sanding and repainting should help stop it from getting worse, at least in the short to medium term.

Thanks all.

Although I was hoping you'd tell me to replace it ASAP so I had an excuse to get that sweet 120g I have my eye on...

oh in that case it's absolutely dangerous. could fail catastrophically at any moment.

i'd evacuate your family and get that 120 ASAP. safety first!

Thanks all.

In that case... (where's that arm-twisting emoticon?) Under the authority granted me by the state of Intoxication... I hereby order you to dump that rusty junk and upgrade.

Does that help :)

Thank you again. I will need you all to testify to this, in court, during my inevitable divorce hearing.
