Is this seam failing? Pic attached...

I'm concerned about this. I swear I would have noticed it before now, and one of the front seams of my new 29g planted looks like this:

Does that seam look like it's failing to you?

That looks bad I would also be checking into that. If it is new I'd take the pic into the store or send to where ever you bought it see what they have to say. Is it just one edge or all of them doing that?

Stick your hand in the tank and pick at it just a little bit and watch it closely to see if it moves away from the glass.

I'm not sure that would help. You are looking edge on at the side pane, so that's the primary seal. What looks like a white smudge is actually a spiderweb of little cracks, which is what makes me think it's going.

I've also checked and that side pain is not straight up and down, it's leaning in at the bottom and appears to have been built like that.

Just one edge doing this. I have no problem buying a new tank. What's $100 versus 29g of water on the main floor of my house? Now that I think about it, right beneath that tank in the basement is my entertainment centre.

Damn I wish the pet store was open late...

Put tape on the glass. It will help you sleep tonight.

bi-directional packaging tape is pretty strong. Lace the whole corner and wrap 10" out on the side and front glass. It's hold it for the night.

So I replaced this tank this afternoon.

I checked the seals and they looked good. Painted the back, drained the tank, tore it down, put the new tank in, reconnected all the equipment and filled it back up.

After filling, the new tank has seams that look like the old ones.

These are Aqueon tanks, they should be 'new' so dry silicone shouldn't be an issue. Even then, this is the primary seal, not exposed to air or anything.

I'm at a loss, is this an issue or not? I'm going to email pictures to Aqueon tonight and hope I get some answers.

Honestly if it was me I'd get money back and go with a different company, even if it isn't a issue it looks like @$%#. I spent alot of money on a Oceanic aquarium after seeing other tanks not being built well or aesthetic issues. Don't settle if it bothers you because it will always bother you.Good luck

I looked for a different brand today with no luck. I'm not really aware of anyone here that carries anything but All-Glass/Aqueon. I also don't really want to got through another tank swap, but I know where you are coming from...

Okay, one more question. The seam you see in the picture is between the panels of glass, it's not the large bead of silicone on the inside corner of the tank.

Is the strength of a corner in the silicone sandwiched between panes, or is it the big interior corner bead? I've seen instructions on building a tank, and they don't even suggest putting silicone between the panes, so is it even necessary?

I'm starting to think this isn't a problem at all...

Can you return your tank.. the store should take it back with a receipt.. of course I lost mine so I'm screwed.

Did Aqueon get back to you? I also emailed them and pointed to Reef Central, but I seriously doubt they would care...
