Is using net to shield clam good idea or bad

I dont know if anyone has read the last thread I posted but I got a Dersa clam and my eyelash blenny decided to try and eat at it. It picked at the bottom of the clam where the foot extends. I put the clam in a small cup with substrate and a piece of flat rock. It has secured to the rock but since I work 3-11 and do not have a day off until wed. I placed a fish net over the cup to keep the bleeny out, if he decides to come back. I have only seen him that one time mess with the clam but I am not home to watch the tank 24-7.

Ideas,
Eric

Eric, this one is hard to answer for me, because there's some missing information.

Off the top of my head, I'd say that anything which reduces the stress on the clam is good. But because you don't say how old the clam is, even a couple days without ample light and circulation for feeding could be a problem if you have a very young clam.

We also don't know how badly the blenny is nipping, or if he's just trying to get at some algae down there. Let the clam attach to a rock or fragging disc just to give it time to settle in, and see if that helps reduce the problem.

The bigger question is what you're going to do in the long term. You can't keep the clam in a cup covered by a net forever. You might come down to making a choice between the blenny and the clam, so be ready to live without one of them.

Sorry about that. Oh yes, the blenny is gone for sure. I just need a day off to get him out. The cup is actually a glass dish so light penetration is not a problem. I filled the dish with sand, then placed a small piece of flat rock into the cup and set the clam on it. The clam is attached but I wanted to give him a few days to really "settle in". The way I filled the dish the clam's bottom is at the rim, so the water flows over it. The clam is about 3 inches.

Thanks,
Eric
