Hi everyone,
I have a Orange spotted blenny (Istiblennius chrysospilos ) in my tank. I've had it for 6 weeks now, and it's been eating and have not shown any signs if disease or something.
Today I wanted to boost my Ca level a bit, so I added 30ml of Saliferts Coral Calsium to my 150L tank. This raised the Ca from 340 to 370. I also added 30ml of Saliferts Strontium. The level before adding was 4, I haven't measured it after.
Both additions was well under the reccomended max dosage in the instructions.
Now, as I was doing this my Blenny changed color from white to a dark wine-red color within seconds.. Nothing else changed in the tank, the snails, shrimps, tang and clowns are just fine. The corals are also doing fine..
The Blenny is still looking for food and eating, but I noticed that it actually tried to swim out of the tank trough the return of the hang-on AM skimmer. Not sure if this is relevant, it may have tried that before without me noticing it.
So my question is - why did this happen? Under what circumstances can this species change color? Can it be stress? Will Ca and/or Sr add to it's stresslevel?
I've tried to do my research on the web, but could'nt find anything related to this.
Hope you guys can help, thanks!
