hi I up grade my light from 2x250MH 10 k+220 pc actinic to 2x400MH 12k+220 pc actinic over 75 gallon sps tank would it be too much light?I have chiller so temp is not a problem.

uhmm.. u can't really get too much lighting. ex: ocean and sun. But some thing prefer less lighting and you're going to experience die off due to lighting intensity.

I think 250's are about perfect over the 75g tank. They two reasons I have encountered for upping to 400's is if you had a deeper tank and wanted to grow on the bottom without any worries what so ever or wanted to use 20ks and the PAR value would drop off too much for your requirments. I suppose it really depends on what you want to stock and where you want to put it. I don't know what the difference in electricity would be, but more I would imagine.

If you think intensity is lacking, can you lower your current setup closer to the water so it is not spread out by the time it get there?
Have you looked on Sanjay's site to find a bulb with the best PAR in the color you want?

I am sure there is no too much light. If you can solve the heating problem, even 400W for 10 gal is not too much light. But there is too much UV. Especially 10K bulb and some 14K bulb has UV, so if your tanke is small, put lamp enough far away from water. If tips of your sps get bleaching or loose intense color of whole sps, you have to consider about UV problem.

Thanks for the info guys.About the heat It should be ok I think chiller can handle it .Forthe uv I 'll use SE bulb .they 're shield right ?It not suppose to have any UV problem right ? I kinda worry about if reeflux12k (already have ) it's going to be too blue with suppliment actinic (already have ) and how to acclimate corals with the new light .how many inch from water should I start .when ?how fast ? how low? should I go? here's pict of my tank

as you see most coral in my tank are in the middle of the tank.and most of them are sps.this pict took when only actinic on so I adjusted white balance make my room look red . pardon the photo quality :) .Thx for the help.
