IV Doser

Not sure if that's what it's called, but I need 2 IV dosers. Can anyone get me 2 of these? I want to set them up to drip calcium and alkalinity. TIA.

Ryan, I made one with a coke bottle, airline tubing and a finger controled roller type "thingy" I bought off ebay. I drilled a hole in the lid to the coke bottle and siliconed a piece of airline tubing in it. I made a small hole in the bottom of the coke bottle. I threaded the other end of the airline tubing through the roller contraption. I mixed my prebaked baking soda with water, according to reef chemistry calculator and dripped it slowly into my sump. Being a nurse and an old one at that, we used gravity drip IVs in the old days and we used this thumb control mechanism on all ivs. Just remember there are 15 drops in 1cc (ml) using this mechanism. You will be able to regulate your drip rate into your tank using the above calculation. I made a hanger on the top of my coke bottle so I can suspend the bottle over my sump and let gravity and the controller take care of the rest of it. I will see if I have some pics of this set up I can send to you, as I know this is very confusing.

No, not confusing at all, just don't know where to get the drip "thingy." If you happen to have a link to it on Ebay that would be perfect. I'll also look to see if I can find something like that. Thanks.

Often people don't drip in the two part solution, but just add it all at once. Full strength kalkwasser tends to boost pH a bit more so it is often dosed slowly. I cut the kalkwasser down to half strength and just pour it in as my top off water, and then I use home made two part solution for the rest of the calcium and carbonate.

I currently am just pouring the 2 part in once a day all at once. I recently added a crocea clam and read that it is better for these animals if you don't just add all at once like that. They can be really sensitive to minor changes in alkalinity and ph according to the article I read. So, I just thought it would be better to drip it in instead of adding all at once.

I recently bought out a store that had a ton of medical supplies in it. One of the things i found was an IV style unit but much better in regards to the design and optional add-ons. Hard to explain exactly but when I get home tonight I will take some pictures and post them on here.

I also have lots of different sized feeding syringes as well..like cases of them. So if anyone can use either of those items I will gladly bring them to the next meeting.

That's cool. I already ordered those off of ebay, but the November meeting is at my house, so it would be cool to see what you have.

Ryan, your drip bag is for feeding people with either a special tube in their stomach or nose. You pour a special milk designed to give people nutrition in the bag and the end connects to either the nose tube or a peg tube in their stomach. I can get my hands on iv tubing if anyone needs some. Let me know.
