Iwaki pump maintenance

We have had our current pump running for about a year. It is a Iwaki MD-100rlt. I have never performed maintenance on it. It seems like I have heard that every 6 months or so you should "clean" them.

Does this just entail disconnecting the pump and pulling the bolts to take the end off and clean out debris?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I went years between cleaning my 70RLT all I ever found was like a slimy film. Easy though, just the bolts on the casing.

The only time I ever took mine apart was to pull chunks of eel out of it after he took a ride down an overflow.

I had a small eel that went all the way through my reeflo hammerhead pump and got stuck in my manifold at a valve.
