Jabeo RW8 vs RW15

You may have seen some of my other posts about my new tank. It is a 100g reef tank approx 5'L x 2'H x 1.5'D.

I have an RW8 which I had on my old smaller tank which seemed a hell of a lot more powerful than what the quote it produces. So much so that I had to use a 12v transformer instead of the 24v supplied and even then had to run it on level 1 or 2.

Just put it in the new tank (nothing but water in) and it's hard to see how powerful it is in the bigger space. I've always planned on getting a second on the other side but now in a predicament of whether to get another RW8 or buy 2 RW15. Obviously it'll be more than double the outlet and I'll be left with the RW8 which I know I could sell but still.

My question is from your experiences, and first hand knowledge, do you think I should buy another 8 or buy too 15's? Obviously I don't want to but another 8 and its not enough and it'll be a waste.

Thanks.

if you plan on putting a lot of sps in your tank i would recommend two 15's. i have a 75(sps dominate)which is 4ftL with two 8's and its just fine for me. i have them set at level two and its more than enough. i rather have two pumps set low than two pumps set med or high IMO. If you dont plan on having a lot of sps i think you can get away with the two 8's on your tank.

i dont understand how you guy said 2 rw8 on a 120g is plenty?
2 RW8/PP8 is not enough for 120g if you do SPS
I run one RW8 and one MP10 on my 2 foot tank and I am thinking to add at least one more PP8.

I've got an rw-15 & rw-8 on my 4' long 90 and they work well. Why not get one rw-15 & run with the rw-8 & see how you like it.

I'm a little OCD and don't think I could handle one big and one small. 😁

But from what everyone has said the RW8 might be ok. Especially if on a 4 foot tank it's only on setting 2 or 3. They are very very powerful and push much more above what they are rated at.

I think I'll have a look at the one RW8 that I have when I start to mix the salt in as it's hard to tell how muchflow its producing with just water and nothing else in the tank.

Thanks everyone. More comments welcome.

Not enough on a 2 foot tank? You may want to clean them out then as my old tank was 2foot and the one RW8 instantly blew the fish to the other side of the tank and into the glass and dug up the sand bed. An that was on a middle speed. I had to half the power plug going to it to be able to use it at all.
