Starting off 2015 right with MondoBongo for January!! Congratulations and thanks for all you do here on Reef Central:thumbsup:
I've had lots of "oddball" pets over the years. from snakes and frogs, to monitor lizards and turtles, but reef keeping is definitely something that has captured me.
As a kid, I was always the one with my face pressed to the glass of the closest fish tank, and in many ways I still am. I had kept some very simple tanks when I was younger. nothing more than a few goldfish. I had a couple friends that had tried saltwater at one point or another, and it always seemed to end badly, leaving me with the impression that it some incredibly hard "Holy Grail" of fish keeping which unfortunately put me off the hobby for quite a long time.
Then a couple years back I caught the bug after watching some documentaries on coral reefs, so I started reading. Having the collective knowledge and experience of places like Reef Central put the hobby back within reach for me, and I started my 75G with mostly borrowed equipment from friends, no sump, nothing fancy, and everything hanging on the back.
As I've learned more I've been able to invest more time and money in to my rig, and evolve it to where it is at today, getting to learn and build along the way.
Hands down my favorite part of this hobby is the learning. there is always some new animal to learn about, or a different husbandry technique to explore, and that's what it keeps it constantly interesting and challenging for me.
Many thanks to the Reef Central staff for everything they do, and for naming me Reefer Of The Month, and many thanks to all the members who have helped teach me about this hobby. It was an unexpected and totally awesome surprise!

In appreciation and honor of the members that regularly contribute to our discussion forums, we would like to acknowledge a Reefer each month that stands out as exceptional for their outstanding service to others. This person will be selected by the Reef Central Staff, based on their willingness to help others in response to questions, giving advice, and overall disposition. The honoree will be given the Reef Central ROTM tag, that will appear above their avatar and will follow them for one year after being awarded. This will not only demonstrate to others that you have been chosen as a trustworthy source of information, but also as a positive role model for others to emulate. Additionally, we are pleased to upgrade your membership to the premium level for one year.
We look forward to honoring one person, each month, by highlighting them here on Reef Central. This will include a recent photograph of yourself, or your avatar if you prefer not to show your actual face, along with what you love about the hobby of reef keeping and why you have chosen Reef Central to be your home. Each month the face and paragraph of the ROTM will change, but you can forever hold the honor of knowing that you were one of the chosen few to have earned this title and our respect as a member in great standing.
