Jawfish and goby

Would it be a bad idea to keep a yasha goby and a blue dot jawfish in a 40g breeder? Or can i only have one because they will fight or something?

Good question what's your tank dimensions? I love my Yasha Goby and Pistol Shrimp. FYI somebody told me his wife wanted a blue jawfish and he got one and it put sand all over his chalice and acans.

Just a thought, and I am sure you know this already, but jaw fish love to jump so the tank needs a full lid. I had one jump out through a 1/2 hold I used for the power head cords. Saddest fish day ever :*( And it threw sand everywhere the first week or so, but the burrow was cool.

Also they like a lot of sand and sand of different sizes (cherished coral, medium grain, and small though I don't think the sugar sized sand is appropriate).

If these points make you think twice a yellow watchman goby is cheap and beautiful.

Im thinking 2 percula clowns, tail spot blenny, yasha goby, blue dot jawfish, and i was thinking about some red spot cardinal fish. Thats wat im thinking for the whole tank. If the goby and the jawfish would work out together what order should i add them in?

Im going to have a 1/8" clear mesh netting screen top, no gaps for cords. I hear goby's are jumpers also so i planned on the lid from the get go ;) lol

Blue spot jawfish need a more temperate environment than those other fish. I would consider a different jawfish, like a yellow head.

What do you mean but temperate environment? Are the other fish too aggressive?

No, I mean that it comes from a cooler environment than the other fish in your tank. They prefer a temperature in the low 70s, because that is what their natural environment is like.

I know the Catalina Goby comes from colder waters but are you sure about the blue dot jawfish? Someone else should chime in. [emoji118]

P.S. Yellow Watchmen Goby are nutty and seem to like the overflow drain.[emoji107]

Blue Dot Jawfish will do fine in tanks with the temp is between 72-80. They are from the Gulf of Mexico area, so they are use to warm waters.

Ok cool thanks guys, but will the jawfish and goby fight or anything? I know they are both live in burrows in the sandbed. Will a 40 breeder be too small for these fish to co-exist? Or will they not even really mess with eachother?

May I suggest this article ...

The author talks about yasha becoming a nuisance to the jawfish and the jawfish picking up the yasha in it's mouth and throwing him out of it's territory.
I've had a pair of pearly jawfish and a female yasha for 6 months together so far they're o.k..

FWIW, my LFS told me not to buy a blue dot jawfish because I don't have a lower temp tank. Not usual for a LFS to turn down a $100 fish sale.

Blue dot jawfish are cold water fish. End of story. VERY RARELY do the temps in their environment get to the low 70s but not for long. They are much more
Comfortable 55-65 range.

So far ive olny found 1 reference on a google search that says they need to be in cold water. Everywhere else i look it says 75-80 degrees...it says they are from the eastern tropical pacific, and the gulf of mexico...

That's because those sources want to sell them. They have a greatly
Reduced lifespan in warm water tanks and are much more likely to develop bsj disease. I decided against having one in a tropical tank after months of research. If you are going to do it, the temp should not get above 75 and even then, be prepared for it to die after a few months. Get yellow headed jawfish instead, hardier, better eaters, and from warm water. That's what I am doing. I will sometime soon setup a cold water tank for blue spot jawfish, Catalina gobies, pacific spiny lump suckers, and ornate boxfish.
Get on wetwebmedia. That will give you
A lot of information.

Ok thanks, its a $120 so i dont want to kill one...plus im all about good husbandry and having stiff pretty much perfect so i dont think ill be going with a jawfish at all because the blue dot is the only one i really like. And im for sure getting a yasha goby and i dont want a jawfish that i didnt want to possibly hurt the goby or anything do i think that ill just go with the goby and no jawfish...its ok though, now i can pick something else!
