Jawfish necessities

Something Seems Fishy
Can you keep a jawfish in 3" sand bed? I am interested in them but unsure that I want to keep a deep sand bed. Also, would a 30 gallon nano be appropriate for a jawfish. Thanks

I'm glad you started this thread, I'm looking to keep one as well but in a 20 long. It would be the only fish but there is no way for a very deep sand bed.

perhaps not "ideal", but I have a blue-spotted Jawfish in my 20L, when I got him, I made one end of the tank deeper sand/crushed coral/rubble/shells for him, and released him at that end. He chose to setup shop at the other end in about an inch of fine sand. I provided him with a lot of rubble and shells and he built a pretty large pile with a hole in the middle and seems happy.

I actually just read lets jaw about jawfish yesterday so its funny you mention that. Mudskipper that's just what I was hoping to hear. Of course like you said its not ideal but it takes me back a few years when I saw a yellowhead at that pet place in Lancaster pa and I would guess to say 3 inches sand tops. Let's jaw suggests almost a foot of sand with 6 inches being the absolute minimum. In a 20L that would be at least 1/3 of the tank filled with sand. And considering I am planning it to be a reef as well that wouldn't be a very attractive tank. Of course there is always the argument of not getting one if you cant properly house it but at the same time the rules are broken all of the time in home aquarium keeping. Sorry by the way if I'm hijacking your thread, I'm hoping you see it as contributing instead though.
