JBJ 28 question

Hi,

Do any of you JBJ 28 owner run both pumps at once? I currently have them running at 5 mins each. I have upgraded the basket to the InTank model running Floss, Purigen and GFO, and CHemi + 11oz. I removed the "sponges" and have the water level at the pump elbows.

I also started another thread about how to mount/fit a Remora Nano with MJ900.

If this was covered before I apologize. The JBJ28 thread is massive and searching through doesn't help much.

Thanks

I have one pump running all the time as a return. The other pump is also on but I re-plumbed it to feed into the GFO reactor. I maintain tank flow with a Vortech.

Have both running at same time. Creates for nice Flow for sps.

Any problems having them run at the same time. I also have a power head in there.

Does running them both at once increase filtration? Hinder filtration?
Was the system designed to have only one run at a time?

I run them both along with a small powerhead as well inside display tank. No problems at all. Overflow can handle it as well. Not sure about filtration as i removed filter basket and have chiller pump in that spot along with GEO reactor. Whenever i do a water change i do it from back area to rid it from all the detrius and junk that collects back there.

I run both full time + a powerhead in the tank for added circulation. Running both provides more turnover, but the flow becomes very laminar and you will have dead spots, I found running them alternating on the wavemaker provided better overall movement in the tank but at the expense of turnover.

The best bet long term is to run one or both, but use a powerhead for movement in the display.

My plan was to run both pumps at the same time and use the jbj wavemaker to run 2 power heads. One on each side. Looking at the MJ 400 pros which show 500gph in circulation mode.
I have a koralia 550 up now but it's much much too big for the tank. the MJ400pros are smaller it would seem and provide similar gph.

Sound good?

Sounds like that should do a solid job of providing some alternating flow to the tank. Have you thought an an MP10? Much more expensive, but it's a full blown wavemaker, takes up a lot less space in the tank, doesn't add heat to the water, and can provide up to 1530gph of flow if needed. :)

Definitely thought about it but would rather have a controller (Apex/ReefKepper/Reef Angel can't decide) than the MP10 at this time.

MP10 was my first upgrade, but I feel ya. Controller is nice for piece of mind. Check out my build thread if you get a chance, might help you out.
