Anyone ever hard plumb this chiller with 3/4" sch 40? I'm just wondering if this will be a problem since it comes with it's own barb fittings that have a weird shape that connects to the chiller.

Just as a side note:

I'll be running the chiller with the exhaust sticking out the window like an air conditioner. The area where I want to mount it is approx 14' away from my tank. I'm not really comfortable with the amount of pressure 28' of flexible hose will take, so I'll be hard plumbing. Anyone see any issues with this far travel the water will have to move?

You will have some head loss with that length of tubing, but it will be minimal due to the large diameter of the tubing/piping. Also, if the only reason you are hard plumbing the hose is because you are worried about hose pressure bursting the line, I wouldn't sweat it; The hose will definitely handle the pressure.

I would buy a pump that has a little more flow than you need to account for the head loss - no matter how you plumb it.

Thanks Kep,

Well, part of it was I thought the hose wouldn't be able to handle the pressure, but the other was my son likes to play with that type of stuff. I can just see him pulling the hose off and water going everywhere. At least if it were hard plumbed, I could affix it to a wall.

My real issue is if anyone has ever done this. I don't want the recieve/output end of the chiller to start leaking if I tried plumbing pvc into it.

Either way you are going to have to attach it somehow to hold it in place. 14 foot long tube full of water won't be light and may pull itself off of the connectors itself! :o

As for your other question about hard plumbing it: getting replacement connectors, or DIY, to not leak will be a challenge. Use a small length of flexible tubing and the stock chiller connectors then attach the other end of the flex tubing to a pvc hardline.
