jebao pumps

whats the local consensus of Jebao pumps.
I am redoing the stand and plumbing of my 120
currently the return is a mak 4 and a blueline 40 hdx i think running a lifereef skimmer.
thinking of the jebao dcp 10000 for a return and the dcp 6500 for the skimmer.

with the smaller stand (standard 4'x2' stand and a 40 breeder sump
vs 5' x3' stand and same sump am loosing space underneath.

Know nothing about there return pumps but the powerheads/Tunze imitations are garbage. Had two, might have gotten 3 months out of each.

I'm currently running a Jebao SW2 in my Micro Tank for the last 3 months or so.

I recently setup a 50g and put 2 new SW15's in them and I overall like them.

Today is the last day for the ebay 20% coupon(its on their front page) that I used to buy 2 SW15's for like $105 shipped. They go for $80ea on Amazon.

I've never had a problem with the return pumps. Just do normal maintenance once or twice a year.

I have a Jebao SW-8 that I abused the heck out of, Cycling rock in a tub, And mixing barrels of water before I finished my mix station. It runs quieter and just as strong as the the Maxspect XF 230 Gyre I returned after a few frustrating months. (More on that in a later review/post) So I just bought two more to replace it. Lots of flow and quiet. I'll have to see for myself how long they last. I can buy three more to break even.

what maintenance? oh god I better return them.... haven't cleaned my 2 pumps in 5 years and no water change since hurricane wilma

lol

Lol.. nice. I like to take them apart and give it a good vinegar bath. I once found a crab (alive) inside the chamber. I don't know how it survived and how long it was in there.

novel findings on switching to the jebao pumps
I used to run a mak 4 return and a blueline 40 on my skimmer externaly. tank averaged 79 degrees
now running the jebao dcp 10000's as return and skimmer internaly and the tank is at 76.5

and really quiet

I wish I went with the DCT-10000+ myself. I have 1" piping, 50g shallow display tank, 30g sump. DCT-8000 ain't enough flow lol!

Exactly. Don't waste your money. Not sure about their return pumps but powerheads are great... for a couple months. Then you have to try and call china. Customer service is abysmal at best.

I got 2 rw8s and 1 cp-40, had the rws for a bit over 2 years, no problems, I just can't run one in pulsing mode as it won't start itself, so that one runs continuous, both are pretty much silent.
The cp-40 I've only had for a couple of months, it's the upgraded motor version, so far no issues at all, as for noise it does make a whirring type of noise, at low speeds you can hardly hear it, but the higher the speed I have it set to the louder it gets, puts out a ton of flow, not sure on returns

The return pumps are phenomenal. They do lose power over time but I have never had one break on me and I am going on 2 years with my dct 9000. The powerheads can be problematic with seizing. I had my RW's for two years and the motor went and I got it replaced. From my experience and I fix these things at a wholesale level, always have a spare motor. The CP (aka gyre knock off) which I used to really like until i had to repair them... are total garbage. They lose strength within months and are near to impossible to fix and put back together.

I have a DC-6000 return pump which has never missed a beat in almost 3 years no. Zero maintenance. Whisper quiet.

I've run a pair of RW-8's which are bullet proof, I just stripped them and gave them a citric acid bath and scrub with a toothbrush every 4-6 months. Completely silent operation.

I've also been running a pair of the cross flow CP-40's also, which have had issues (original batch) however they have been swiftly sorted out by Fish St who sent replacement parts in and out of warranty and TBH the customer service was far better than I received from local or US manufacturers or vendors.aI have a DC-6000 return pump which has never missed a beat in almost 3 years no. Zero maintenance.

You do need to maintain the gyre style pumps much more so than propellor pumps. Mine have never lost power, I strip, clean and reassemble every 4 months or so. They have never lost power. There is a definite knack of putting them back together as they are just more complicated.

DC-6000 running for 2 years, no issues at all, cleaned twice a year. 2 RW-8's for 2 years as well with limited cleaning. I did swap out the ceramic bushings that tend to seize and replaced them with bushings I cut from plastic tubing.

Interesting, never had an issue with the ceramic bearings

I found that if I dropped the power below 20% or shut off for feeding that they would sometimes seize up and not start again. Once I changed the bushings it never happened again.
