Jedi Mind Trick wont plate...

My jedi mind trick monti just seems to want to encrust and not plate....is this normal? Ive seen pictures of them plating. Mine has no where to go but down and that is what its doing...

Mine does both more encrusting then plating

Generally most corals will tend to plate when they reach a vertical edge. Otherwise they will tend to encrust until they must plate in order to keep from growing straight down.
