Jelly Fish tank

So my wife is after me for one of those round 6 gallon jelly fish tanks. How hard is it to keep them? I really don't know anything about them. How long do they live?

Id go with moon jellyfish.But they are colder water thogh.They live like a year and a half but somme even reported more than 3 years.The food is frozen artemia enriched.What tank you want to buy,the Cubic orbit 20?I also wanted to keep moon jellyfish but they sting and i dont like to keep jellyfish alone in a tank so i decided to keep ctenophores (comb jellyes) that dont sting,they are bioluminiscent (except the sea goose berry).If i had a cobic orbit tank i would probably keep sea goose berryes in it (pleurobachia sp);they live like a few months so youl have to be cloose to the sea to colect them personally as you cant find these for sale(its illegal to sale ctenophores).The food for pleurobrachia would be frozen copepods or frozen artemia but chopped.They arent bioluminiscent but they do have the ctenofore combs that change color wile reflecting light(iridescence its called).Another ctenophore that easy to keep is Mnemiopsys Leidiy but this its too dangerous to be kept by aquarists because if it escapes in a foreign enviroment it will damage the ecosystem so i dont give details about it.The ctenofore thats in my profile picture its bioluminiscent (beroe ovata) and it feeds only with otther ctenophores (especially with Mnemiopsys Leidiy)so its the hardest to keep but i plan to colect Mnemiopsys Leidiy and froze them so i can feed the Beroe in aquarium.A video with pleurobrachia (the sea goose berry) feeding .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsMUeo4qJjkIn the video you can see they keep the Pleurobrachia with moon jellyfish but the moon jellyfish can sting the ctenophore and even eat it.

Are moon jellies pretty hardy as far as jelly fish go?

They are the hardyest and most long lived of all jellifishes for aquarium.A chiller thogh would be a good investment for such an aquarium.You dont need powerfull lamps but a chiller would help and you dont have to set it on 10 degrees C like somme sugest .I think 18-20 degrees C would be enough.You can catch moon jellyes in the spring at the seaside if you have them in your area;For ctenofores the season to catch them is late summer but depends on what species you can find locally and if you live in a warm place maybe you can find ctenophores even at the begining of summer.

I believe the RC user amzar123 had a jellyfish tank but decided to discontinue it. She could probably give some cons to the idea if you contact her. She has a YouTube channel not sure what it is called but you will see a video link in her threads if you search her here. There was a jellyfish video

To honest I like the idea of the tank but without my main tank up and running I really don't want to mess with a 6 gallon tank. With something that only lives a few years I don't think the cost is worth it. That small tank is $300 or $400 I just can't bring myself to justify that kind of money. If it was $50 or something I would probably be more inclined to give it a go. Plus there is no place to put a chiller on that tank. I would have to run an external chiller or sump.

What about the ice jellyfish? Those seem to like warm water. I'm so up in the air with a tank like this. It would be a cool tank but the cost for such a small tank is crazy high.

That aquarium looks nice and its worth the price.To make a biger,round kreisel aquarium is expensive and verry hard because of the shape and weight ,needs special stand.The ctenofores i will keep arent short lived,they can live up to 4 years in aquarium.If you like jellyfishes but dont want kreisel aquarium you can get the photosynthetic,upside down jellyfish.
